An excerpt from my journal:
"In my staff relief felt that I developed leadership skills in being able to communicate my recommendations to other staff including the diet clerks and nursing. I was previously very timid in approaching these staff members and in learning how to, I definitely phrased a few questions incorrectly. In response, I sometimes got a terse reply from the nurse that she didn’t know and she couldn’t make those decisions. Thinking of my last week of staff relief, I felt that I was able to converse well with the nurses about tube feeding recommendations, inconsistent diet orders, patient preferences, and our nutrition interventions, all without any hesitancy or fear. I felt conformable speaking to the speech language pathologists and nephrologists regarding their recommendations for the patients. While in my staff relief, I felt comfortable on the floors operating independently, knowing where to find the information I needed and who to ask for help with questions I might have had. This experience will help me in my future career to be able to work with cross-disciplinary groups with confidence and professionalism." |
